Finisterre: a Frankie review

frankie_finisterre_cover

I spend a lot of time outdoors for my job and so having a wardrobe stocked with functional (and stylish) kit is essential for surviving all seasons…

Recently I have been lucky enough to try out two pieces from the finisterre collection which have now become firm favourites.

Not only are the products great, but the vision and commitment of the Cornwall based company is something I can fully get on board with. Responsibly sourced fabrics, innovative designs built to last and a repair service if needed, because “sometimes our clothes need a spa day”. Finisterre don’t like waste and would much rather breathe new life into an old jacket than add it to landfill… Just brilliant!!

I have been wearing (a lot) the merino ‘Eddy cap sleeve’ t-shirt and the lightweight, reversible jacket which is most definitely warmer than you may think from looking at it, but this is just how finisterre roll with their insulation wear.

The t-shirt has become a staple due to its extremely flattering long length fit and incredible warmth, making the last of the fresh spring mornings much more bearable. I don’t like wearing lots of chunky layers when training people, so this is perfect. If you’re worried about the merino irritating your skin, you needn’t be…it is super soft and as someone with slightly sensitive skin, I have been pleasantly surprised.

I know that I will be getting my fitness paws on some more of these T’s for the Autumn/Winter months this year and have a feeling the long sleeved version will also come in extremely handy!

eddy_baselayer_oyster_w_staticLayered over my merino dream I’ve been rocking the super cute reversible jacket which allows you to decide whether it’s a yellow or a blue kind of day. I have always wanted a yellow rain coat so this is my preference…

An insulator of the lightest kind, this little wonder has kept the chill off while cycling and the rain off whilst training and walking in the countryside. It has also been a total lifesaver during that awkward seasonal change over when it’s too warm for a winter coat but not warm enough to go without that extra layer…AND it rolls up teeny tiny into the zip pocket on the front, so you can pack it away in your bag if needs be.

I maaaaaaay have, ok, definitely have been perusing more of the finisterre look book for summer wear…Its making me want to head to a cornish beach right now and dip my toes in the sea…

Daydreaming aside..If you’re looking for outdoor wear which screams style and function, with the added bonus of earth friendliness, you need to check out finisterre

Happy FriYAY!!

Survival of the Resolution

Mountain Climber

It’s only just February so I’m going to say it anyway…Happy New Year lovely readers. Isn’t New Year great…those 365 fresh pages waiting to be filled up with new adventures, stories and experiences… Oh and some fitness fun, of course.

Hands up if you made a New Year’s resolution to up your fitness game, get into fitness and improve your health? And now hand’s up if you have stuck to your resolutions now the January chapter is over? It’s one of those things we all do…myself included. We set so many goals for ourselves in a time of pressure for constant self-improvement and it can all feel a little overwhelming usually resulting in giving up before you really get going.

So this is where I come in with some survival tips for making the most of your training ventures in 2015 which I hope will help you on your journey…

Do something you ENJOY! Consistency is key when it comes to training and trying to do something regularly which you simply don’t enjoy very much means you’re less likely to keep it up… There are so many options out there as individual as you are and you mustn’t be afraid to PLAY and try things outs… have FUN!!

FOCUS your goals and don’t overwhelm yourself. I am a sucker for making a really long list and then struggling to know where to start so this is something I am also working on in 2015. Give yourself two to three fitness goals to attack and this should help you to stay on track. When working on your goals remember to enjoy the PROCESS and celebrate achievements as you go…

Being ACCOUNTABLE to someone can really help on those days you struggle to find motivation. If you have a friend who also wants to train, agree times in the week to work out together…encouragement, support and maybe a touch of competitiveness could be just what you need. There is also the option of hiring a Personal Trainer to kick your butt and help you to really step out of that ‘comfort zone’ – It can also be a positive way of beating plateaus and ruts.

FIT KIT is my weakness. There’s nothing better than a super slick pair of leggings to get me in the mind set for training like a warrior – It’s the lycra effect. Investing in great training gear can give you a real boost and it’s also a lovely reward for yourself…feeling good is really important. Some of my favourite brands for kit (not just for girls) include: fizzYcaL, lululemon, Adidas, Primavera and GymLuxe….Check them ouuuuuuut

Whatever fitness journey you are on this year, I hope it is a journey full of fun, tonnes of sweat, great achievements, goal smashing and some wicked lycra… Go forth and conquer and when you do, give yourself a massive high five!!!

Train About Town

IMG_2356-0
On Tuesday night I joined a group of thirteen bad ass women and we took to the streets of East London to Train about Town!

IMG_2389
Lead by the Mancunian Motivator, Terminator that is Jane Anderson, the one hour session was filled with squats, slaloms, sprints and planks of joy… Kicking off at the Lexie Sport pop up store in Old Street station we got warmed up and headed off on our trail with cheers of enthusiasm, much to the commuters confusion.

The goal of Train About Town was to show that you don’t need to be holed up in a gym to get fit – the city can literally be your gym and your playground if you let your imagination run free.

So now you can look at a flight of steps and think ‘Ahhh they’re not just any steps, they’re the steps of destiny…’
Sprints, lateral squats, press ups, squat jumps – so much potential and so much fitness fun to be had!

Barclays bike stands? Or a Slalom session… The possibilities are endless!

After East London had Witnessed the Fitness it was time to head back to Lexie where we were greeted with goodie bags of delight, stashed with Vita Coco and Bounce Balls for refueling our bods.

Legging Lust

Leggings

I love leggings…the brighter and funkier the better…so when Primavera Fitness landed on my radar it was always going to happen…the love affair has begun with this Brazilian fitness wear…

The leggings are ridiculously comfortable, so very flattering and the colours make me super happy whenever I put them on. My favourite feature is the adaptable waist band…you can wear it really high (it comes to just under your bust), rolled half way (as in pic below) or right on the waist.

The high waist look has been a winner with me so far and it looks fab with just a sports bra for an extra slinky vibe…There’s nothing worse than having to yank your leggings up when training so these are a dream.

I’m eyeing up the awesome jumpsuit at the moment… Santa I’ve been a really good girl this year..

Ladies check out Primavera Fitness for more colours, styles and sets and get your Brazilian on!!
